Nigeria’s Power Sector Has Lost More Than N300 Billion This Year

Nigeria's Power Sector

New data have shown that the power sector has lost more than N300 billion this year because of gas constraints and a poor distribution network.

It has been reported that the sector lost more than one billion naira, even as recently as Monday, because of gas unavailability, poor distribution and transmission network as well as high frequency, when thirty-seven hundred megawatts of electricity could not be generated.

Executive Secretary, Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC), Joy Ogaji warned of likely nationwide blackout over the inability of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to transmit the available volume of electricity generated into the national grid.

Meanwhile, TCN says it may consider Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement in the mix of options available to it to upgrade the capacity of Nigeria’s national grid.

Appeal Court Nullifies Zamfara APC Primaries For Gov, Assembly Elections

The Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto State, led by Justice Tom Yakubu, has set aside the judgement of a Zamfara High Court on the All Progressives Congress primary election that produced the party’s candidates for the governorship, National and State Assembly elections.

The appellant, Aminu Jaji, a governorship aspirant and serving lawmaker representing Kauran Namoda/ Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency approached the appeal court to set aside the judgement of a High Court in Zamfara that recognized the primary elections held by APC in the state and declared that INEC accept the party’s candidates for the elections.

APC won the March 9 governorship election in the state.

Acting CJN Swears In 13 New Election Petition Tribunal Members

Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Mohammed, has sworn in the remaining 13 members of the 2019 Election Petitions Tribunal.

Mohammed admonished the new members to be of good character and endeavour to live above board.

He also reminded them of the sacred nature of the oath they had taken, stressing it had become a bond between them and their creator.

The Acting Chief Justice says there would be no room for excuses or any performance below approved standards.

The judicial boss informed the new Tribunal members that they were thoroughly examined and later fished out from the numerous judges in the country who were equally eminently qualified for this task.
