SERAP Supports Call To Audit NASS Accounts

National Assembly Postpones Resumption To Next Tuesday

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has welcomed calls by Senator Abdulahi Adamu for the accounts of the National Assembly to be audited.

SERAP’s Executive Director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, said the probe would have to be extended to all federal government agencies and other arms of government.

The group said most legislators live beyond their means and should be investigated by anti-graft agencies.  It says most spenders, like the presidency, nigerian national petroleum corporation, central bank of nigeria and nigeria ports authority, must not be left out.

Appeal Court Nullifies Zamfara APC Primaries For Gov, Assembly Elections

The Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto State, led by Justice Tom Yakubu, has set aside the judgement of a Zamfara High Court on the All Progressives Congress primary election that produced the party’s candidates for the governorship, National and State Assembly elections.

The appellant, Aminu Jaji, a governorship aspirant and serving lawmaker representing Kauran Namoda/ Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency approached the appeal court to set aside the judgement of a High Court in Zamfara that recognized the primary elections held by APC in the state and declared that INEC accept the party’s candidates for the elections.

APC won the March 9 governorship election in the state.

Acting CJN Swears In 13 New Election Petition Tribunal Members

Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Mohammed, has sworn in the remaining 13 members of the 2019 Election Petitions Tribunal.

Mohammed admonished the new members to be of good character and endeavour to live above board.

He also reminded them of the sacred nature of the oath they had taken, stressing it had become a bond between them and their creator.

The Acting Chief Justice says there would be no room for excuses or any performance below approved standards.

The judicial boss informed the new Tribunal members that they were thoroughly examined and later fished out from the numerous judges in the country who were equally eminently qualified for this task.
