UK PM Theresa May Arrives In Nigeria

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has arrived in the presidential villa, Abuja where she is in a closed door meeting  with President Muhammadu Buhari on the second day of her trade mission to boost ties with Africa.

This is Theresa May’s first official visit to Nigeria and part of her trip to selected sub Saharan African countries since becoming British Prime Minister.

She was in South Africa on Tuesday where she met with President Cyril Ramaphosa and pledged more than $5 billion as an investment aid to Southern African nations to create employment for youths.

She said there would be a fundamental shift in aid spending to focus on long-term economic and security challenges rather than short-term poverty reduction.

Appeal Court Nullifies Zamfara APC Primaries For Gov, Assembly Elections

The Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto State, led by Justice Tom Yakubu, has set aside the judgement of a Zamfara High Court on the All Progressives Congress primary election that produced the party’s candidates for the governorship, National and State Assembly elections.

The appellant, Aminu Jaji, a governorship aspirant and serving lawmaker representing Kauran Namoda/ Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency approached the appeal court to set aside the judgement of a High Court in Zamfara that recognized the primary elections held by APC in the state and declared that INEC accept the party’s candidates for the elections.

APC won the March 9 governorship election in the state.

Acting CJN Swears In 13 New Election Petition Tribunal Members

Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Mohammed, has sworn in the remaining 13 members of the 2019 Election Petitions Tribunal.

Mohammed admonished the new members to be of good character and endeavour to live above board.

He also reminded them of the sacred nature of the oath they had taken, stressing it had become a bond between them and their creator.

The Acting Chief Justice says there would be no room for excuses or any performance below approved standards.

The judicial boss informed the new Tribunal members that they were thoroughly examined and later fished out from the numerous judges in the country who were equally eminently qualified for this task.
