UNILORIN, OAU Win As HIFL Semifinals Begin
UNILORIN Warriors secured a first leg win at home against UNICAL Malabites in the first round of the semifinal matches of the 2018 Higher Institutions Football League (HiFL). Unilorin Warriors striker, Kabir Akanbi scored the only goal in the 55th minute to put the home team in good standing for the second leg in Calabar.

At another venue in Ife, OAU Giants showed class at home against the Tillers from Makurdi, winning by five goals to three in what could be described as one of the most exciting fixtures of the tournament. Seyi James gave the giants an eighth minute lead with a superb strike before Ogbole Emmanuel equalized for the UAM Tillers in the 15th minute.

OAU Giants’ Toba James converted a penalty kick in the 40th minute before leading HiFL goal scorer, Ebuka David equalized for the visitors also with a penalty kick to close out the first half.

UAM Tillers’ Ebuka scored his second in the 61st minute, but OAU Giants equalized through a penalty converted by Toba James six minutes later. OAU Giants and HiFL 2018 awesome revelation, Kehinde Oripelaye put the home team ahead in the 84th minute with an amazing strike to make the scores 4-3.

However, the visiting team had a players sent off when Shaibu Benjamin fouled OAU forward Toba James and the home team took advantage of their numerical superiority to seal victory with a late strike from Toba James. The game ended 5-3 in favour of the home team.

The second leg of the semifinals is scheduled for October 17, 2018.The HIFL is organised by Pace Sports and Entertainment Marketing in partnership with the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA).

Edo State To Host 2020 National Sports Festival
Edo State has been declared as host of the 20th National Sports Festival in 2020, thus knocking out other contenders that include Delta, Imo and Cross River states.

Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung made the announcement last night at the close of the 19th edition won by Delta State.

“Despite the short preparation, adequate arrangements were made to ensure the success of the festival,” Dalung said.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, who received the festival flag signifying the next host of the national unity games that began in 1973 in Lagos, said Edo is capable and has the capacity to host the nation come 2020.

The state, however, finished third on the overall medals table with 47 gold, 41 silver and 53 bronze medals totaling 141, behind the champion, Delta and Rivers states

Delta State retained her top position with 352 medals that included 163 gold, 88 silver and 101 bronze followed by Rivers State in the second position with 69 gold 58 silver and 67 bronze medals.

The state’s Sports Commission Chairman, Godwin Dudu-Orume, told The Guardian that Edo State is rebuilding the famous Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium to be the best and most modernized stadium with state-of-the-art facilities.

“We will provide the best modern facilities ever in the history of the National Sports Festival. The state has previously hosted it, but this time, there will be a huge change,” Dudu-Orume stated.

The Super sand Eagles of Nigeria have made it to the Beach Soccer World Cup by beating hosts Egypt to clinch a place in the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations 2018 final.

Abu Azeez scored the opening, and his 100th goal for Nigeria, after a period of high pressure from the men in green.

Taiwo made it for Nigeria a few minutes later after he ran on to a long pass to arrow a low shot past Mohamed Fawzy in the Egyptian goal.

Flying Eagles Through To Semi-finals Of WAFU Cup

Nigeria’s under-20 side, the Flying Eagles, are now in the semi-finals of the Wafu cup in Lome, Togo after a 4-2 win against perennial rivals, Ghana.

The Flying Eagles will face Mali in the semi-finals, while Niger will do battle with Senegal in the other last four clash.

The Flying Eagles took the lead for the first time in the game few minutes after the break with Ibrahim Babawo converting from the spot.
