Nafada Wins Gombe PDP Governorship Ticket

Alhaji Bayero Nafada, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representative, has been declared winner of the PDP governorship primaries in Gombe.

Nafada scored 1,104 votes to defeat 12 other aspirants in the primary election held in Gombe.

Mr Joe Akaka, Chairman of the PDP governorship primaries in Gombe, who announced the results on Tuesday, said that Jamilu Gwabna came second with 147 votes with Ahmed Walama and Mohammed Hasan scoring 16 votes each to clinch third place. .

He said that 1,367 delegates were accredited with 1320 casting their votes in the election in which seven votes were invalidated.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, one of the aspirants, Malam Bala Tinka , said that the delegates merely fulfilled what God had destined.

He pledged their support toward success in the secondary elections.

Reacting to his victory, Nafada promised to work with the aspirants to achieve success in the election and governance of Gombe.

He commended Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo’s efforts toward a better Gombe State and promised to consolidate on the gains.

Goodluck Jonathan Denies Dumping PDP

Former president Goodluck Jonathan has denied rumours he had dumped the People Democratic Party.

The former president said he has no reason to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or retire from politics for now.

He made the statement through his media adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, in reaction to a report by an online publication claiming the former president had resigned from PDP and quit politics.

Eze’s statement described the news as fake, saying it was a “calculated attempt to rubbish the elder statesman”

President Mohammadu Buhari has charged all APC candidates in states where supplementary elections would hold to work hard to earn the people’s trust and mandate.

The presidency warned state governors against having any thoughts that the president would influence the decision of the people.

It also warned political leaders to desist from making inflammatory statements capable of inciting the citizenry to violence ahead of Saturday’s supplementary elections.

The presidency said some party leaders expected that Buhari would abuse his office by usurping the powers of INEC to turn the table in their favour.

Gbenga Daniel Quits Politics, Shows Interest In APC

Ogun State former governor Gbenga Daniel has shown interest in joining the All Progressives Party.

Gbenga Daniel resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday saying he was quitting politics.

But on Sunday, after meeting with his supporters, Daniel said he was considering their plea that he ‘lead them into APC.’

Apart from governing Ogun under the PDP, Gbenga Daniel was the chief campaign strategist for the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in last month’s election.
