SERAP Secures Court Order Against Fashola

An anti-corruption group, Socio-Economic and Rights and Accountability Project has secured court’s leave to file for a mandamus order against the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, over poor power supply in the country.

The order is to compel Fashola to account for about nine hundred billion Naira sunk into the privatisation of the electricity sector in Nigeria without any positive result to show for it.

The leave to seek mandamus order against Fashola was granted in Lagos on Tuesday by Justice C.J. Aneke of the Federal High Court

The leave followed an ex parte application filed and argued by SERAP’s lawyer Bamisope Adeyanju.

The Judge, after granting the leave, directed that Fashola should be put on notice. He adjourned the case to late November.

Appeal Court Nullifies Zamfara APC Primaries For Gov, Assembly Elections

The Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto State, led by Justice Tom Yakubu, has set aside the judgement of a Zamfara High Court on the All Progressives Congress primary election that produced the party’s candidates for the governorship, National and State Assembly elections.

The appellant, Aminu Jaji, a governorship aspirant and serving lawmaker representing Kauran Namoda/ Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency approached the appeal court to set aside the judgement of a High Court in Zamfara that recognized the primary elections held by APC in the state and declared that INEC accept the party’s candidates for the elections.

APC won the March 9 governorship election in the state.

Acting CJN Swears In 13 New Election Petition Tribunal Members

Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Mohammed, has sworn in the remaining 13 members of the 2019 Election Petitions Tribunal.

Mohammed admonished the new members to be of good character and endeavour to live above board.

He also reminded them of the sacred nature of the oath they had taken, stressing it had become a bond between them and their creator.

The Acting Chief Justice says there would be no room for excuses or any performance below approved standards.

The judicial boss informed the new Tribunal members that they were thoroughly examined and later fished out from the numerous judges in the country who were equally eminently qualified for this task.
