UPU Seeks Resolve Of Aladja, Ogbe-Ijoh Crisis
President-general of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide, Olorogun Moses Taiga, has called on Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to show political and moral will and resolve the lingering dispute between Aladjaan Urhobo community and Ogbe-Ijoh, an Ijaw community in Delta State.

Taiga, who spoke against background of renewed clashes between the two warring communities in which over eight persons were feared dead, also called on the Federal Government and the military authorities to probe allegations of partisanship on the part of soldiers drafted to quell the crisis.

He said: “This dispute has lingered for too long and has taken much blood, lives and property. I call on the state government led by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to show political will by looking at the reports of the various committees set up to look into the dispute and carry out their recommendations fearlessly.

“For how long are we going to allow the breach of peace and the disregard for the sanctity of human lives in these two communities because of other considerations not favourable to truth, justice, equity and peaceful co-existence?”The UPU president-general also frowned at allegations that certain individuals in high places are exacerbating the crisis.submitting that “such persons, if it is true, should search their consciences and be warned that history and the Creator will be unkind to them for any role they play in the wanton killings and destruction.”

“ I also call on the Federal Government to investigate allegations that soldiers were grossly partisan in this recent incidence by firing shots at helpless residents of Aladja, killing many,” he added.

Appeal Court Nullifies Zamfara APC Primaries For Gov, Assembly Elections

The Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto State, led by Justice Tom Yakubu, has set aside the judgement of a Zamfara High Court on the All Progressives Congress primary election that produced the party’s candidates for the governorship, National and State Assembly elections.

The appellant, Aminu Jaji, a governorship aspirant and serving lawmaker representing Kauran Namoda/ Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency approached the appeal court to set aside the judgement of a High Court in Zamfara that recognized the primary elections held by APC in the state and declared that INEC accept the party’s candidates for the elections.

APC won the March 9 governorship election in the state.

Acting CJN Swears In 13 New Election Petition Tribunal Members

Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Mohammed, has sworn in the remaining 13 members of the 2019 Election Petitions Tribunal.

Mohammed admonished the new members to be of good character and endeavour to live above board.

He also reminded them of the sacred nature of the oath they had taken, stressing it had become a bond between them and their creator.

The Acting Chief Justice says there would be no room for excuses or any performance below approved standards.

The judicial boss informed the new Tribunal members that they were thoroughly examined and later fished out from the numerous judges in the country who were equally eminently qualified for this task.
