Aisha Buhari Receives Presidential Appointment

Mrs. Aisha Buhari, wife of the Nigerian president, has been appointed by her husband to the Presidential Advisory Committee on the elimination of drug abuse. The committee is chaired by Lagos state former military administrator, retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa.

The President also inaugurated the ministerial steering committee and appointed the secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, as its head.

At the inauguration in Abuja on Monday, Buhari called for collective action to help those in the grips of drugs to build a new life.  He said drug abuse has become a major public health problem in the country which must be faced and addressed as an emergency.

Flying Eagles Head Coach, Paul Aigbogun, has submitted to the Nigeria Football Federation the final list of twenty players for the 2019 Africa U-20 cup of nations.

The team says it has put behind it the disappointment felt from the cancellation of the international friendly with Saudi Arabia U-20 squad. But organizers have promised that the game would still hold after the U-20 AFCON finals.

NRA Threatens To Withdraw Members From NPFL Over Attack On Referees

The Nigeria Referees Association has threatened to withdraw its members from the Nigeria Professional Football League because of repeated attacks on league referees.

Referee Sam Agba was assaulted by Plateau United fans in Jos and on Sunday, some match officials were attacked by fans of Remo Stars in Sagamu.

Afe Babalola Calls For Unified Examination For Universities Graduating Students

Chief Afe Babalola, SAN, a legal luminary, has called for the adoption of a unified examination system for final year students in every course in Nigerian universities.

The legal icon said this is the way to bring about quality education in the country to discourage what he called “the culture of laziness” in the system.

Babalola made the call while speaking at the tenth matriculation ceremony and award conferment on alumni of Afe Babalola University in Ado Ekiti.

At the twin events, Ekpo Naomi, best graduating student ever produced by the university since its inception in 2010, was awarded half a million naira.

Babalola said if the Nigerian Universities Commission and the Ministry of Education adopt the idea of unified examinations to all final year students, every university would strive harder to ensure its students pass the national examinations.  He said this will result in high standards in teaching and learning.
