Lawmakers Call On Federal Government To Pay Oil Marketers

The Nigerian Senate is taking seriously the threat by oil marketers to go on strike over the Federal Government’s non-payment of their outstanding claims. The lawmakers have asked the Federal Government to make the payment immediately to avert a looming oil scarcity in the country. They say this is very urgent especially as the Christmas is fast approaching.

While this prodding is going on by the senate, the government and petroleum marketers say they have reached a settlement agreement with the federal government, and assured the nation operations and sales would continue at all its depots until further notice.

The finance minister’s special adviser on media and communications, Ella Abechi, says the assurance not to cease activities at the depots was jointly reached and signed by officials of the Federal Government and representatives of the petroleum marketers in Abuja.

Goodluck Jonathan Denies Dumping PDP

Former president Goodluck Jonathan has denied rumours he had dumped the People Democratic Party.

The former president said he has no reason to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or retire from politics for now.

He made the statement through his media adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, in reaction to a report by an online publication claiming the former president had resigned from PDP and quit politics.

Eze’s statement described the news as fake, saying it was a “calculated attempt to rubbish the elder statesman”

Supplementary Elections: Presidency Urges APC Candidates To Work And Earn People's Mandate

President Mohammadu Buhari has charged all APC candidates in states where supplementary elections would hold to work hard to earn the people’s trust and mandate.

The presidency warned state governors against having any thoughts that the president would influence the decision of the people.

It also warned political leaders to desist from making inflammatory statements capable of inciting the citizenry to violence ahead of Saturday’s supplementary elections.

The presidency said some party leaders expected that Buhari would abuse his office by usurping the powers of INEC to turn the table in their favour.

Gbenga Daniel Quits Politics, Shows Interest In APC

Ogun State former governor Gbenga Daniel has shown interest in joining the All Progressives Party.

Gbenga Daniel resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday saying he was quitting politics.

But on Sunday, after meeting with his supporters, Daniel said he was considering their plea that he ‘lead them into APC.’

Apart from governing Ogun under the PDP, Gbenga Daniel was the chief campaign strategist for the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in last month’s election.

Daniels also supported Ogun APC governorship candidate, Dapo Abiodun, in the governorship election in the state.
