Kwankwaso Diverted Project Funds To Fund Campaign - Ganduje

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has charged that his predecessor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, diverted some funds meant for road project to fund his presidential campaign in 2015.

Ganduje says ninety per cent of the total sum of the contract was provided by the 44 local governments, while the remaining 10 per cent was provided by the state government. Ganduje says Kwankwaso collected the 90 per cent from the 44 local governments, paid the mobilisation fee and funded his presidential campaign with the balance.

Ganduje also declared the Kwankwasiyya people have started campaigning with the 5km road project, but promised to expose Kwankwaso.

Worker Commits Suicide Over Unpaid Salary in Benue State

A worker in Makurdi local government area of Benue State has committed suicide over alleged non-payment of his salaries.

Reports say the state’s local government workers have not been paid for about eight months, and some claim the government is owing them up to a year of salaries.

A worker in the local government, who spoke in confidence, claimed the deceased worked in the agriculture department.

The source says the unnamed local government worker drank acid.

MPC Meets In Abuja To Attracts Foreign Capital

Members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will meet today in Abuja to take measures to attract more foreign capital inflow and curtail capital outflow and rising inflation ahead of next month’s elections.

National Bureau of Statistics says the consumer price index, which measures inflation, rose to almost eleven and a half per cent in December.

This is the 265th meeting of the MPC, and the first for the year.  It is expected to keep all policy rates unchanged as has been with all meetings since July 2016.

That decision will prevail despite rising calls from economic experts for the committee to lower benchmark interest rate.

Hassan Sunmonu, the pioneer president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, has advised leaders of various labour unions against selling out their members for pecuniary gains to avoid suffering karmic retribution.

Sunmonu gave this warning in Ibadan at the weekend.  He was guest speaker at a lecture titled, “the life and challenges of a trade union leader,” delivered in Honour Of Isiaka Ibrahim, former NLC chairman in Oyo State.

Sunmonu said trade unionists could only consider themselves successful if they truly overcame inducements and temptations from employees.
