Ogun State: Residents Call On FG To Intervene Amid Crisis With Customs

Olu of Owode-Yewa in the Yewa south local government area of Ogun State, Oba Mathew Akindele, has said the federal government should rein in and take drastic measures against Nigeria customs officers who have allegedly killed some citizens of Ogun State.

The monarch made the call at a press conference on Saturday at Owode-Yewa where he alleged that customs officers had invaded a shop and tried to remove bags of rice stored there.

He said shop owners and youths resisted the move, and a clash ensued, customs agents began to shoot, killing five residents.

Akinrogun of Owode-Yewa, Yusuf Akanbi said the area is very worried about the attitude of customs men in the area, and is demanding punishment for the customs agents responsible for the killings.

State spokesman, Abdullahi Maiwada, said the incident was caused by alleged smugglers and hoodlums whom he said had prevented an anti-smuggling team from carrying out its duties.  He said armed criminals inflicted serious injuries on two officers and destroyed two patrol vehicles.

Kaduna CP Faults El-Rufai's Figures On Adara Killings

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Abdulrahman Ahmad, has faulted figures given by Governor Nasir El-Rufai on the number of people killed in the crisis in Adara, Kajuru local government area of the state.

Ahmad says the governor pre-empted police investigations.

Governor El-Rufai had said earlier that 66 Fulani were killed in the local government. Later, he jacked up the figure to 130.

Ogun PDP Crisis Deepens As Party Suspends Abati, Sowunmi, Others

The crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party in Ogun State worsened on Thursday as a faction loyal to a member of the House of Representatives, Oladipupo Adebutu, suspended, for anti-party activities, a deputy governorship candidate, Reuben Abati; spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar campaign organisation, Segun Sowunmi; and 37 candidates of the party loyal to Kashamu.

The faction led by Sikirulai Ogundele says the suspension is at the instance of the ward and local executive committees which noted that affected members failed to appear before them and also did not respond to queries served on them.
