2019 AFCON Pushed Back By Six Days Because Of Ramadan

This year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt has been pushed back by six days to accommodate Muslim players time to rest and recover after a month of fasting.

CAF say the tournament would now kick off on June the twenty-first instead the fifteenth.

This new change of date is a request from a group of north African nations, and CAF approved the delay at a special executive committee meeting on Saturday.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) dismissed the Gambia Football Federation’s (GFF) appeal over the eligibility of Togo defender Adewale Oloufade and upheld the original decision of its disciplinary board.

Lagos Court Issues Bench Warrant Against Jay Jay Okocha

Lagos division of the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of former Super Eagles star, Austin Okocha, over tax evasion charges.

Jay Jay Okocha as he is popularly known has allegedly failed to appear before the court to answer why he allegedly failed to pay his income taxes.

Justice Adedayo Akintoye issued the warrant for the arrest of the former Eagles captain on January 29 and thereafter adjourned until February 19.

The football star is facing a three-count charge instituted by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice bordering on failure to furnish his income returns and nonpayment of tax.

FIFA Bans Chelsea From Signing New Players, Gives Three Days To Appeal

Chelsea have been banned by FIFA from signing players for two transfer windows after being found guilty of breaching rules in signing youth players.

FIFA announced that the premier league club were found guilty of 29 incidences of breaching article 19, which relates to the transfer of players aged under 18.

Chelsea have also been fined more than £460,000, while the FA face a £390,000 sanction. The FA will appeal the fine, citing “concerns” with FIFA’s disciplinary processes. It comes following a FIFA investigation into Chelsea’s signing of foreign under-18 players, including former striker Bertrand Traore.

The ban which is to last until the end of January 2020, does not prevent Chelsea from releasing players does not apply to their women’s and futsal teams. According to reports, the transfer of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea is most likely not affected as the player was registered in FIFA’s Transfer Matching System (TMS) in January.
