Appeal Court Approves Onnoghen’s CCT Trial

The case of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen seems to have taken a new dimension as the Abuja division of the court of appeal has given a nod to the federal government to go ahead with the case at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The appellate court, in a unanimous ruling by a three-man panel, declined to stop further proceedings in the six count charge the federal government preferred against Onnoghen.

The Code of Conduct Tribunal had earlier adjourned hearing of the matter indefinitely to await the appeal court ruling.

After ruling, the appeal court ordered the CCT to proceed and ensure speedy hearing.

Meannwhile, the Court of Appeal has also debunked rumours that names of dead and retired judges were on the list of the two hundred and fifty judges sworn in as chairmen and members of the 2019 elections petitions tribunal by acting Chief Justice Tanko Mohammed.

The court says the reports are false, and that the list was drawn with inputs from state chief judges and the Nigerian Bar Association.

Kaduna CP Faults El-Rufai's Figures On Adara Killings

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Abdulrahman Ahmad, has faulted figures given by Governor Nasir El-Rufai on the number of people killed in the crisis in Adara, Kajuru local government area of the state.

Ahmad says the governor pre-empted police investigations.

Governor El-Rufai had said earlier that 66 Fulani were killed in the local government. Later, he jacked up the figure to 130.

Ahmad says investigations were still ongoing and it would be inappropriate to provide any figures at this time.

Ogun PDP Crisis Deepens As Party Suspends Abati, Sowunmi, Others

The crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party in Ogun State worsened on Thursday as a faction loyal to a member of the House of Representatives, Oladipupo Adebutu, suspended, for anti-party activities, a deputy governorship candidate, Reuben Abati; spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar campaign organisation, Segun Sowunmi; and 37 candidates of the party loyal to Kashamu.

The faction led by Sikirulai Ogundele says the suspension is at the instance of the ward and local executive committees which noted that affected members failed to appear before them and also did not respond to queries served on them.
