ASUU Suspends Three Month Strike After Reaching Agreement With FG

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has on Thursday suspended their three months strike after reaching an agreement with the federal government.

According to the Union’s official Twitter handle @ASUUNGR post.

“The NEC has decided that the STRIKE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED. Academic activities resume tomorrow.”

ASUU however warned the federal government that the suspension is not an outright call-off because if their demands are not met they are ready to embark on another strike.

“Remember that this is a suspension not an outright call-off. If government reneges on our memorandum of agreement, @ASUUNGR will be embark on another industrial action with full force.”

The Union decided to suspend the strike after a meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige that lasted for more than two hour.

According to Ngige after the meeting, he emphasized that eight areas of disagreements were discussed and agreed upon by the two parties, while expressing gratitude to ASUU leadership for their understanding.

ASUU president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said lecturers are to resume on Friday, February 8, 2019 also making it clear that the union will not hesitate to review its position should government renege on the signed Memorandum of Action.

Kaduna CP Faults El-Rufai's Figures On Adara Killings

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Abdulrahman Ahmad, has faulted figures given by Governor Nasir El-Rufai on the number of people killed in the crisis in Adara, Kajuru local government area of the state.

Ahmad says the governor pre-empted police investigations.

Governor El-Rufai had said earlier that 66 Fulani were killed in the local government. Later, he jacked up the figure to 130.

Ahmad says investigations were still ongoing and it would be inappropriate to provide any figures at this time.

Ogun PDP Crisis Deepens As Party Suspends Abati, Sowunmi, Others

The crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party in Ogun State worsened on Thursday as a faction loyal to a member of the House of Representatives, Oladipupo Adebutu, suspended, for anti-party activities, a deputy governorship candidate, Reuben Abati; spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar campaign organisation, Segun Sowunmi; and 37 candidates of the party loyal to Kashamu.

The faction led by Sikirulai Ogundele says the suspension is at the instance of the ward and local executive committees which noted that affected members failed to appear before them and also did not respond to queries served on them.
