Players And Fans Pay Tributes To Emiliano Sala After Police Confirmed Body

Dorset Police have on Thursday formally confirmed the body recovered from the wreckage of a crashed plane to be that of Cardiff City footballer Emiliano Sala.

The aircraft, which was also carrying the pilot David Ibbotson, crashed on 21 January, en route from Nantes to Cardiff.

A body was pulled from the aircraft, which was found on the bottom of the ocean north of Guernsey, earlier this week. The body taken to Portland port.

Police said, “the families of Mr Sala and the pilot David Ibbotson have been updated with this news and will continue to be supported by specially trained family liaison officers.”

Cardiff City issued a statement shortly after identification of the 28-years-old Argentine striker was confirmed saying: “We offer our most heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the family of Emiliano. He and David will forever remain in our thoughts.”

2019 AFCON: Egypt Choose Six Venues To Host Finals

Egypt has chosen six venues across five cities to host this year’s African Nations Cup finals.  One of the locations is the port said stadium where 72 supporters died in the country’s worst violence at a soccer venue in 2012.

After a board meeting, the Egyptian Football Association confirmed that Cairo stadium, Borg El Arab stadium in Alexandria and Ismailia stadium are among the venues chosen for the tournament.

Other venues are the army-owned June 30 stadium, on the outskirts of Cairo, and the Suez Stadium.

The 74,000-seater Cairo stadium hosted the finals of previous nations cup tournaments in 1986 and 2006.

The port said stadium was closed for five years after the 2012 disaster that followed a league match between Al Masry and Al Ahly.

Baxter To Resign If Bafana Fails To Qualify For 2019 AFCON

Head coach of the South African men’s national football team, Stuart Baxter, says he will resign if his team fails to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt this summer.

The team, Bafana Bafana, must avoid defeat in their final group game against Libya to qualify for the tournament.

The Englishman’s comments certainly got tongues wagging across the rainbow nation, but for many, they came as no surprise after the trials and tribulations he has endured in his second stint in charge of the South African national team.
