SA Film Summit: Filmmakers Deliberate On Transforming The Industry

South Africa Ministry of Arts and Culture recently hosted the inaugural South African Film Summit in Johannesburg, aimed at transforming and innovating the country’s film industry.

Policy makers, funders, and film makers gathered to look at the sector to find solutions to expand it, and clear any bottlenecks. Government is keen on partnerships, not only with the private sector, but also with other government departments.

Film producers in South Africa are caught between a rock and a hard place at the moment, when it comes to content buying. There is another pressing issue of intellectual property.

Another challenge facing the film industry is distribution, once the body of work has been completed. The South African film industry has come a long way in a relatively short space of time.

The South African film and audio visual industry has the potential to become one of the biggest generators of gross domestic product in the country. At the moment, the film industry is at number three on the list, above tourism.

Jussie Smellott Arrested For Allegedly Filing False Police Report

Jussie Smollett has been arrested in Chicago after being charged with filing a false police report. The arrest was made after a Chicago police investigation revealed that the ‘Empire’ actor paid two Nigerian brothers Ola and Abel Osundairo $3,500 to stage a violent attack on him.

Superintendent, Eddie Johnson said, the men wore gloves during the attack and Smollett’s scratches and bruises afterward were most likely self-inflicted, they are cooperating with police and have not been charged.

Smollett allegedly first sent himself a racist and homophobic letter, and when that didn’t work, he staged the attack. “This stunt was orchestrated by Smollett because he was dissatisfied with his salary,” Johnson added.

The 36-year-old actor was charged with disorderly conduct for filing a false police report, which is a felony in Illinois and could face up to three years in prison if found guilty.

Smollett, who is openly gay, had alleged that two masked men attacked him at 2 a.m. on January 29 as he was walking home from a Subway restaurant in Chicago.

Grammy Awards: "Babe I can't breathe," Cardi B Says Having Become The First Solo Woman To Win Best Rap Album

Hip Pop artiste Cardi B could not hold back her emotions on Sunday as she was named the winner of the Best Rap Album for her ‘Invasion Of Privacy’ at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles.

In a category  mostly dominated by male artiste, Cardi appeared to be shaking as she held onto her husband Offset on stage as she became the first solo woman to win the category.

The nomination for Best Rap Album category are Mac Miller’s Swimming, Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap, Pusha T’s Daytona, Travis Scott’s Astroworld and Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy.

The American rapper born Belcalis Marlenis Almanzer said “the nerves are so bad — maybe i need to start smoking weed.”

Cardi in her speech gave thanks to her husband and daughter as she narrated what she went through knowing she was pregnant and having to produce the album at the same time.

“I want to thank my daughter. I’m not just saying thank because she’s my daughter. When I found out I was pregnant, my album was not complete. I had three songs I was for sure having. And you know how I was. We had to have this album done so I could shoot these videos but I’m still not showing. It was very long nights,” the 26-year-old said.

‘Empire’ Actor Jussie Smollett Hospitalised After Possible Homophobic Attack

Jussie Smellott Arrested For Allegedly Filing False Police Report

Hollywood actor, Jussie Smollett was on Tuesday attacked in what police are calling a possible hate crime.

The police said, the ‘Empire’ actor was attacked by two people who hit him in the face and poured an unknown chemical substance on him as they also wrapped a rope around his neck.

Smollett told police his attackers made reference to ‘MAGA’ (Make America Great Again), also “yelling out racial and homophobic slurs.”

The 35-year-old  drove himself to Northwestern Hospital where he is currently receiving treatments.

A number of actors send their love to Smollett after the horrible incident.
