CAF President Accused Of Violating Statutes, Faces Suspension

CAF President Responds To Criticism By ExCo Member Musa Bility

CAF President Ahmad Ahmad has been accused of violating its statutes.

African football’s ruling body executive committee member, Musa Bility, has called for an urgent meeting on Friday.

Bility wants the body to assess Ahmad’s decisions to redistribute the 2021, 2023 and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and sign a commercial deal without exco approval.

CAF’s statutes say only eight of the exco’s 23 members need to be present for such a meeting to go ahead.

Should the exco find Ahmad guilty of breaching CAF statutes, which state that moving any nations cup requires the approval of the exco, the former Madagascar FA president could be suspended and expelled.

2019 AFCON: Egypt Choose Six Venues To Host Finals

Egypt has chosen six venues across five cities to host this year’s African Nations Cup finals.  One of the locations is the port said stadium where 72 supporters died in the country’s worst violence at a soccer venue in 2012.

After a board meeting, the Egyptian Football Association confirmed that Cairo stadium, Borg El Arab stadium in Alexandria and Ismailia stadium are among the venues chosen for the tournament.

Other venues are the army-owned June 30 stadium, on the outskirts of Cairo, and the Suez Stadium.

The 74,000-seater Cairo stadium hosted the finals of previous nations cup tournaments in 1986 and 2006.

The port said stadium was closed for five years after the 2012 disaster that followed a league match between Al Masry and Al Ahly.

Botswana Sacks National Coach David Bright

The Botswana Football Association has sacked national coach, David Bright, after the team performed poorly in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The zebras are left with one round to play, against Angola next month, but remain winless after five matches.

Bright was appointed for his fourth stint in charge of the team in 2017.

Baxter To Resign If Bafana Fails To Qualify For 2019 AFCON

Head coach of the South African men’s national football team, Stuart Baxter, says he will resign if his team fails to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt this summer.

The team, Bafana Bafana, must avoid defeat in their final group game against Libya to qualify for the tournament.

The Englishman’s comments certainly got tongues wagging across the rainbow nation, but for many, they came as no surprise after the trials and tribulations he has endured in his second stint in charge of the South African national team. Baxter knows if he fails to get to the AFCON tournament, his time is up.

Rumors are already circulating, linking Mamelodi Sundowns’ coach, Pitso Mosimane, with the job, but his quest for success with the 2016 African champions may just rule him out and open the door for another local coach.
