Planned IPMAN Closure Put Onitsha Motorists And Commuters In Panic

Motorists and commuters in Onitsha, Anambra State, and surrounding areas have a major mobility problem now as petroleum marketers in the state have stopped operations.

Many petrol stations were shut early Tuesday morning following a directive from the south east office of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN.

Of course, the transportation sector seized on the development and increased fares. Some even doubled the regular rates further compounding the problem for commuters.

Many drivers said there were no warnings before the action, but the News Agency of Nigeria said it saw its correspondent saw a circulated IPMAN text message that notified the public of the planned closure.

Chairman of the Petrol Dealers Association of Nigeria, Cletus Obi-Okafor, said the shutdown was in compliance with the orders of the national leadership. He said the petrol stations would not reopen until they receive another directive to do so.

Kaduna CP Faults El-Rufai's Figures On Adara Killings

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Abdulrahman Ahmad, has faulted figures given by Governor Nasir El-Rufai on the number of people killed in the crisis in Adara, Kajuru local government area of the state.

Ahmad says the governor pre-empted police investigations.

Governor El-Rufai had said earlier that 66 Fulani were killed in the local government. Later, he jacked up the figure to 130.

The crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party in Ogun State worsened on Thursday as a faction loyal to a member of the House of Representatives, Oladipupo Adebutu, suspended, for anti-party activities, a deputy governorship candidate, Reuben Abati; spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar campaign organisation, Segun Sowunmi; and 37 candidates of the party loyal to Kashamu.

The faction led by Sikirulai Ogundele says the suspension is at the instance of the ward and local executive committees which noted that affected members failed to appear before them and also did not respond to queries served on them.
