Some Lagos based doctors, called the Medilag 90 Group, made up of the 1990 medical and dental graduates of the University of Lagos College of Medicine, have urged Lagos state governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to resuscitate 37 non-functional primary health and dental care centers in the state when he assumes office.
The group made the request in a press statement in which it congratulated Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Ibijoke, on the election victory.
Group spokesman, Dr Dele Babade expressed confidence that Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu is professionally prepared and ready to play a major supportive role to her husband as the first lady of the pre-eminent state in Nigeria
The group says of particular importance is the expansion of the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme to reach half a million households or two and a half million enrollments by the fourth quarter of this year. It expressed confidence that Sanwo-Olu would meet the healthcare target of fifteen percent of state budget set by the Abuja declaration on health care. The state’s current level is at nearly nine percent.
Nabena Charges APC On Plot By Saraki, PDP To Hijack 9th National Assembly
Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena, has charged there are plots by Senate President, Bukola Saraki and those at the head of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to hijack the leadership of the 9th session of the National Assembly by influencing who emerges leaders of both chambers.
Nabena said in a statement in Abuja that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) must move fast to nip such moves in the bud by coming out with a zoning formula for the emergence of leaders of the legislature.
Nabena says the senate president is working in tandem with what he called “Otta farm,” warning that the APC must move quickly to urgently roll out the zoning arrangements to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2015.
Both incumbent Senate President, Bukola Saraki and House Speaker, Yakubu Dogara emerged senate president and speaker against the party’s wish in the outgoing 8th National Assembly.
Kwara State Debt Profile Hits N30 Billion
The Kwara State government has put its debt profile at N30 billion with a monthly repayment of almost half a billion naira.
Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu, said, contrary to social media speculation of N50 billion, the debt stood at thirty one and a half billion in 2017 and almost thirty-one billion at the end of 2018.
Giving a breakdown of the current indebtedness, Banu explained that the N30 billion includes 15 billion naira balance of the federal government restructured loan, and N4 billion as salary bail out.
Others are excess crude account loan outstanding of almost ten billion and vehicle loan balance of a hundred twenty-nine million.
Kaduna Killings: Residents Hold Rally In Abuja, Calls For Justice
Victims of the recurrent killings in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna State held a peaceful rally in Abuja on Tuesday asking for justice.
Convener of the rally, Williams Abba, says it was to call the attention of the world to the insecurity in Kaduna State.
Gunmen again attacked two communities in the troubled local government area early last week.
Multiple sources confirmed the attack, but police and the state government did not immediately react.
The attacks occurred in Ikirimi village and Iri, Dogon Noma in Ungwar Gamo, both in Kajuru local government area.
